Half tonne haul of drugs destroyed

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 15/07/2016

Half a tonne of drugs including methamphetamine worth more than $170 million has been turned to waste in a "satisfying" destruction by Customs.

The meth made up more than 230kg of the 843 packages obtained by Customs in various seizures during many months.

Date rape drug GBL disguised in nail polish bottles, `grow you magic mushroom' kits, heroin, ecstasy and LSD mimics were also among the haul which was shredded, mixed with other materials and processed with high pressure steam to turn it to waste.

"It is extremely satisfying turning millions of dollars worth of drugs into worthless and irretrievable waste that cannot harm our communities," Customs' Bruce Barry said.
