A man whose body was found in a Hamilton home was attacked with a blunt weapon, police say.

A homicide inquiry has been launched into the death of Brent Paul Brown, 45, who was found dead at a home on Poaka Avenue on August 31.

Police say they believe Mr Brown received multiple injuries from a blunt instrument , but a post-mortem examination has been unable to find the cause of death.

"This is why a homicide inquiry has now commenced," Detective Inspector Hywel Jones said on Monday.

He said police had spoken to a number of people at the home where Mr Brown lived and were continuing a forensic examination of the scene.

They have called for anyone who saw him from midday to the time of his death - about 11pm on August 31 - to come forward.
