But, for Harry Styles , that was almost literally true following his recent Saturday Night Live performance, last weekend - where he set himself on fire while trying to stop a blaze from ripping through the NBC TV studios in New York’s Rockefeller Plaza.

According to a report in The Sun , the 23 year-old sparked a near-emergency when his T-shirt caught ablaze after being thrown on a nearby candle's naked flame.

A source told the paper's Bizarre column: “Harry nearly burned the place down. After his performance he went back to his dressing room and ripped off his shirt and threw it in the corner of the room.

“A few minutes later his manager asked if he could smell burning – he’d thrown it onto a candle and the whole sleeve had set alight. He tried to stamp it out but then his sock caught on fire.

“Luckily, the whole team got involved and managed to stamp the flames out, but it was one step away from needing a fire extinguisher.”

Not that this is first dalliance with fire, of course. Fans will remember that, during a 2013 performance in Chicago, USA, he walked into a pyrotechnics display on stage.

Thankfully, his band-mates were on hand to help avert disaster.

The news of Harry's latest mishap comes shortly after he was accused of ripping off a guitar riff from a 70s track on new single Ever Since New York.

The One Direction singer has only just debuted his new solo music, but has already come under fire from fans of British rock band Badfinger who reckon Harry has used a near identical guitar riff to the one used on their 1971 track Baby Blue.

One Twitter user shared: “So... did Harry Styles pre-pay Badfinger for this song? This episode is a tribute to lack of talent all round.”

Another wrote: “So did Harry Styles get permission from Badfinger to use the Baby Blue riff for that song?”
