Hawke's Bay sign Filipo and May for NPC

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 22/07/2016

Hawke's Bay have plugged two injury holes in their forward pack with a couple of veteran campaigners for the NPC.

Former All Blacks lock Ross Filipo and prop Ben May have signed to cover for the loss of Chiefs lock Michael Allardice and Highlanders prop Brendon Edmonds, who both suffered long-term knee injuries during the Super Rugby season.

Four-Test lock Filipo, 37, played eight games for recently-crowned French club champions Racing 92. It marked his return to Europe after playing three additional seasons in New Zealand, for Wellington at NPC level and for the Chiefs in Super Rugby.

Hawke's Bay will be a fourth province for May, 33, who has played Super Rugby for the Crusaders, Chiefs and Hurricanes.

The NPC begins on August 18, with Hawke's Bay's first game two days later, at home to Wellington.
