Hayden Paddon third at Rally Poland

NZN 1/07/2016

Three stage wins have propelled New Zealand driver Hayden Paddon to third place at the midway point of Rally Poland.

Paddon won the second, fifth and ninth stages on Friday to be 10.2 seconds behind Estonian leader Ott Tanak through 10 stages.

Andreas Mikkelsen of Norway is 6.2sec in front of Paddon while series leader Sebastien Ogier of France is just behind the Kiwi in fourth.

Paddon, who produced seven top-four drives, defied some technical problems. He changed the set-up of his Hyundai in the afternoon to try to improve the balance but it made the ride-height too low for the deep ruts.

Paddon and co-driver John Kennard are seeking a change of fortune after being forced to retire from the last two rallies, in Portugal and Italy.

Tanak, in a Ford, won five stages on the fast, sandy roads in northern Poland.

Saturday's schedule features seven long stages cover 125km.
