The Huffington Post The Huffington Post 17/11/2015 Carly Ledbetter

On Tuesday, Charlie Sheen appeared on "The Today Show" with Matt Lauer and revealed that he is HIV-positive.

Sheen told Lauer that he is the victim of extortion and blackmail, which is why he was essentially forced to disclose his diagnosis. The 50-year-old actor said he was diagnosed four years ago, though he is unaware of how he contracted the virus.

"I have a responsibility now to better myself and to help a lot of other people, and hopefully with what we're doing today others will come forward and say, 'Thanks, Charlie,'" said Sheen on "Today."

Amid his "Today Show" appearance, celebrities have taken to social media accounts to show their support for Sheen. Among them are Sheen's former "Money Talks" and "Scary Movie" co-star, Heather Locklear,"Today Show" co-anchor Al Roker and Daily Mail columnist Piers Morgan.
