Help for quake-stricken farmers pours in

Offers of help for quake-stricken farmers are outstripping requests for help by 10 to one, Federated Farmers says.

Its helpline has logged more than 300 offers against 31 requests for assistance.

The most common have been for accommodation, water for stock and people, fuel, generators, transport and workers, says the federation's adverse events spokeswoman Katie Milne.

"Dealing with slips and fractures on roads is proving to be one of the biggest issues," she said on Monday.

"Milk tankers haven't been able to get in to some areas and fuel is critical at this time of year as farmers need to get winter crops sown so there is feed for animals next winter."

The federation's Adverse Events Trust Fund was reactivated mid-week and has so far received more than $21,000.
