Hewitt sixth in Leeds triathlon

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 12/06/2016

Andrea Hewitt has shown impressive consistency in finishing sixth in the latest round of the world triathlon series in Leeds.

World No.1 Gwen Jorgensen (USA) was a comfortable winner in 2hr 00min 33sec, running down a 90 second deficit off the bike to win from Bermuda's Flora Duffy and Englishwoman Vicky Holland (GBR).

Hewitt, who clocked 2:02.18, said afterwards that the day hadn't been her best.

"It was difficult to understand the nature of the course at the beginning, we swam outside the town in a lake and it was hard to know the course in terms of the turns.

"But once we got into town, I enjoyed the technical parts."

She now sits fourth on the world rankings.

In the men's race, Ryan Sissons finished 13th in 1:53.10 in a race predictably won by London Olympic gold medallist Alistair Brownlee, who clocked 1:49.27 to beat younger brother Jonny by 32 seconds.
