Highlanders lock Mark Reddish has signed for English side Harlequins.

Reddish, 31, has made nearly 50 Super Rugby appearances with the Hurricanes and Highlanders and has appeared for the New Zealand Barbarians.

He will join the London-based side in the English autumn once his provincial commitments for Wellington are concluded in New Zealand, says Harlequins' director of rugby John Kingston.

"He will provide a huge injection of experience and know-how to the group at a time when we traditionally lose players to international commitments. His ability to play in both the second and back rows will provide additional flexibility.

"Mark's physical and uncompromising style will make him an invaluable part of the squad."

Reddish, 1.96m tall, made his Super Rugby debut for the Hurricanes against the Highlanders in 2011 and then joined the Dunedin-based franchise in 2015.

He started in the 2015 Super Rugby final when the Highlanders beat his former side 21-14 and was selected in the New Zealand Barbarians team in a 34-17 win against the Maori All-Blacks at Eden Park.

"When I was approached about an opportunity to play at Harlequins I had no hesitation at all in agreeing to accept," Reddish said.

"It is an iconic club with a great history."

Harlequins already have New Zealanders Nick Evans, Ben Botica and Mat Luamanu playing for them.
