Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) will meet in an additional debate on April 14 in New York City's Brooklyn, hosted by CNN.

The network announced the new debate on Monday, after several rounds of sparring between the Clinton and Sanders campaigns over scheduling and location. Clinton and Sanders had agreed to debate in advance of the crucial New York Democratic primary later this month, but both cited previously scheduled campaign events and commitments.

Sanders originally planned a large rally in New York City's Washington Square Park on April 14. It will be rescheduled a day earlier.

CNN will co-host next week's debate with NY1, a New York-based cable news channel. The debate will take place in Brooklyn, a location important to both candidates: Sanders grew up in the borough and has a significant support base there, and Clinton's campaign headquarters is located there.

The debate will be five days before New York voters head to the polls. The state's primary is a significant contest for both candidates, with 291 delegates up for grabs. A win for Clinton would solidify her delegate lead. A Sanders victory would blunt Clinton's dominance in the delegate race and keep his hopes for the Democratic nomination alive.
