Hockeyroos lose but confirm final spot

The Hockeyroos have been upset 2-0 by Japan at the Festival of Hockey in New Zealand but are still assured of a place in the final of the four-nation women's tournament.

The world No.4 Australians suffered their first defeat in the double round-robin phase but finished with a marginally better goal difference than Japan. Both teams tallied nine competition points.

Australia will face New Zealand in Sunday's final after the Black Sticks beat the United States 2-1 in a tight final round-robin match..

The Japanese rediscovered their form against Australia, having won their first two games before losing three on the trot.

They took the lead in the first quarter, with Yuri Nagai scoring from a scramble in front of goal. Nagai made it a double with a slick goal in the third quarter.
