An equine ambulance is one of 29 projects funded to make New Zealand's racing industry safer this year.

NZ Throroughbred Racing has been granted more than $32,000 for the emergency float as part of the latest round of Racing Safety Development Fund announcements.

Racing Minister Nathan Guy announced $697,193 of grants on Friday, which are matched dollar-for-dollar by club contributions.

"The fund plays an important role in improving the safety of the racing industry for animals, staff and the wider public. In many areas these facilities are widely used by the community throughout the year," he said.

Other projects include $50,000 for stable replacements at the Kaikoura Trotting Club and a series of running rail replacement projects and track upgrade and repair works.
