Charges have been dropped against a man arrested in New Zealand's biggest cocaine bust.

Gonzalo Rivera-Pavon, 30, was arrested last July along with two others after Customs found 35 kilograms of cocaine inside a 400-kilogram diamante-encrusted horse head statue that arrived by plane from Mexico.

Charges against him were withdrawn by the Crown during a hearing at the High Court of Auckland on Thursday.

Rivera-Pavon was due to stand trial next week alongside Mexican national Augustini Suarez, 44, and a 56-year-old American Ronald Cook Senior.
