How the Dow Jones industrial average fared on Friday

NEW YORK — U.S. stock indexes closed moderately lower on Friday following three days of gains. Several technology stocks traded heavily, including Yahoo, Twitter and Facebook. Energy stocks fell along with a steep decline in the price of oil.

On Friday:

The Dow Jones industrial average lost 131.01 points, or 0.7 percent, to 18,261.45.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 12.49 points, or 0.6 percent, to 2,164.69.

The Nasdaq composite lost 33.78 points, or 0.6 percent, to 5,305.75.

For the week:

The Dow was up 137.65 points, or 0.8 percent.

The S&P 500 was up 25.53 points, or 1.2 percent.

The Nasdaq was up 61.18 points, or 1.2 percent.

For the year:

The Dow is up 836.42 points, or 4.8 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 120.75 points, or 5.9 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 298.34 points, or 6 percent.
