The jury in the rape trial of cricketer Scott Kuggeleijn has been unable to reach a verdict and has been dismissed by the judge.

Scott Kuggeleijn was accused of raping a 21-year-old woman in May last year.

The trial started at the beginning of last week in the Hamilton District Court.

The jury retired at 11.30am yesterday and just after 2pm today returned to court to tell the judge they would not be able to reach a unanimous verdict.

Judge Philip Connell dismissed the jury and thanked them for their service. Scott Kuggeleijn has been remanded on bail until next month when a retrial date will be set.
