Hungary's President Janos Ader will visit New Zealand later this month, Prime Minister John Key has announced.

It will be his first official visit to New Zealand and coincides with the 60th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution.

"This is a significant occasion in our shared history as New Zealand welcomed 1100 refugees from Hungary at the time, who went on to contribute to much to New Zealand life," Mr Key said.

"Hungary is an important partner in New Zealand's efforts to develop even closer relations with the European Union, our second largest trading partner."

President Ader will be here from November 13 to 16 and will visit Wellington, Auckland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty.
