The four-year-old suffered a broken leg after being clipped by the car while walking to kindergarten with his mother and cousin along Baverstock Road, Flat Bush on Thursday morning.

His mother noticed a white sedan speeding towards the group as they crossed the road and pulled both children out of the way to avoid more serious injuries.

Poilce say the driver did not stop and continued into Chapel Road.

"Failing to stop and render assistance following a vehicle crash is a criminal offence," Senior Sergeant Jono Chappell said.

"The fact that this person did not stop to see if the child was OK is appalling and we would like to identify the owner of the vehicle so we can make further inquiries."

The car, possibly a Honda Civic, is described as having distinctive tinted windows, round quarter light and black mag wheels.
