Hunt for Wilderpeople bound for Australia

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 1/05/2016

The makers of the hit New Zealand film Hunt for the Wilderpeople are asking Kiwis to spread the word to family living in Australia ahead of its release there.

Taika Waititi's latest cinematic offering broke the local record for an opening weekend by a New Zealand film and has gone on to be the second-biggest earner behind Boy, another Waititi comedy.

On Saturday the makers released an Australian poster ahead of the release date of May 26.

"Help us spread word about the Oz release date to your friends and family across the ditch!" several of the actors tweeted on Sunday, to match a post of the film's Facebook page.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople stars Sam Neill, a well established star, and Julian Dennison, a boy from Naenae in the Hutt Valley.

Inspired by Barry Crump's novel, Wild Pork and Watercress, the film recounts the story of misfit kid Ricky Baker.

Ricky finds himself on the run with his cantankerous foster uncle in the wild New Zealand bush.

A national manhunt ensues, and the two are forced to put aside their differences and work together to survive, in this heart-warming adventure comedy.
