Hunt on after attack on Auckland jogger

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 20/07/2016

A hunt is on for a man who indecently assaulted an Auckland jogger.

Police say the woman was making her way down from the Mt Wellington summit on July 3 at about 9.30am when the man, between 25 and 30 years old, began following her.

He urinated in front of her and then grabbed and attacked her.

She managed to fight him off and he ran back to his light-coloured van parked at the top of the mountain.

Police say an immediate search of the area failed to find the man and in two weeks they've not been able to identify him.

They are now asking for public help.

"Mt Wellington is a reasonably busy place on a Sunday morning, lots of people walk and run up there at that time and often take selfies or photos at the top," Detective Keri Kimpton said.

They described the man as Maori or Pasifika, about 170cm tall, with dark curly collar-length hair and a slight moustache.

The case is not believed to be linked to a case into a number of indecent assaults against women in Onehunga.
