NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 30/04/2016

Double Olympian Liza Hunter-Galvan has won the Rotorua marathon in comfortable fashion while Nick Horspool fought hard to claim the men's title.

Texas-based Hunter-Galvan, who represented New Zealand at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics, cleared away at the 10km mark to win by exactly two minutes from Aucklander Katie Wyrill.

The 46-year-old survived a late bout of cramps and dehydration to win in 2hr 55min 25sec.

Wellingtonian Horspool cleared away late to win in 2hr 27min 39sec, half a minute ahead of Palmerston North's Chris Sanson.

Also in the mix until late in the race were Aucklanders Ciaran Faherty and Tony Payne, who finished third and fourth respectively.
