Illegal streamers stung: boxing promoters

A day out from Joseph Parker's WBO title bout with Andy Ruiz Jr, fight promoters say their legal action against seven illegal online streamers has been successful.

Seven people who streamed Sky's broadcast of the Parker- Solomon Haumono fight on Facebook in July must pay nominal damages of $100 and costs of $2670, Sky and promoters Duco said in a statement on Friday.

"The judge was satisfied that each defendant had infringed Sky's copyright," they said.

More claims were in the system, Sky chief executive John Fellet said.

Duco chief executive Martin Snedden says more staff will be working over the weekend to track down people streaming the fight.

Parker will fight Mexican-American Ruiz in Auckland on Saturday night. Sky is charging nearly $60 for people to watch it on its pay-per-view Arena channel.
