Improving Ko still lags behind leaders

World No.1 Lydia Ko has eased up the leaderboard at the LPGA Tour event in Hawaii, but still sits 11 shots astray of the leaders at the halfway mark.

Ko's opening round one-over 73 had left her languishing in 85th place, but the 19-year-old New Zealander fired a second-round 69 to improve her position at Ko Olina in Oahu.

In-Kyung Kim of South Korea nailed a second-round 64 and holds the clubhouse lead with world No.3 Ariya Jutanugarn on nine-under 135.

World No.2 So Yeon Ryu, who backed up her opening round 68 with a 69, is two shots behind the leaders.

Ko's 76-week reign as world No.1 has been under threat for most of the season by Jutanugarn, and a victory in Hawaii to either the Thai or Ryu would be enough to topple the Kiwi.
