Prolific offspinner Jeetan Patel has secured another five-wicket bag for Warwickshire in English county cricket but it will probably be in a losing cause.

Former Black Cap Patel took his first-class haul for 2016 to a competition-leading 70 scalps during the low-scoring game against Somerset in Taunton.

After taking a wicket with his only ball in Somerset's first innings of 95, Patel bagged 5-86 as Somerset posted 211 in the second innings.

Chasing 184 for victory, Warwickshire were 131-8 at stumps on the second day.

Patel, 36, has taken more than 50 wickets in each of the last five seasons.

His figures of 5-42 against Somerset last week sent Warwickshire into the one-day county final against Surrey.

After the semi-final, Warwickshire captain Ian Bell described the Wellington spinner as among the county's best overseas signings.

Patel played 19 Tests and 50 limited overs internationals over an eight-year span until 2013.
