Interislander ferries to resume sailing

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 14/06/2017

The Interislander will resume sailing after conditions in Cook Strait have settled again.

The decision was made on Tuesday evening to cancel crossings that night and on Wednesday due to unsafe swells and sea conditions.

In a statement on Wednesday, Kiwirail says the first scheduled sailing from Wellington will be a freight service at 6.45am on Thursday, while the first passenger service will embark at 9am.

"Accordingly our first scheduled service out of Picton is 10.45am Thursday for passengers and freight," says Interislander general manager operations Mark Thompson.

He thanked passengers and freight companies for their patience but said safety was the paramount concern.
