International honour for rowing twins

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 21/05/2016

Double Olympic gold medallists Caroline Meyer and Georgina Earl have been awarded World Rowing's prestigious Thomas Keller Medal.

It's the first time the award has gone to New Zealand, and the first time since 1999 that it's been awarded to more than one person.

The award is international rowing's highest distinction, recognising an exceptional international rowing career as well as exemplary sportsmanship.

As the Evers-Swindell twins, the pair won gold in the women's double sculls at the 2004 Athens Olympics and again in Beijing four years later.

They also won world championship gold three times between 2002 and 2005.

The pair will be presented with their medals next Saturday at the rowing World Cup in Lucerne.
