Investigation targets ticket resellers

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 19/04/2017

A leading Kiwi consumer watchdog is joining forces with similar groups in the UK and Australia to investigate complaints about ticket reselling mark-ups.

Complaints about ticket resellers have been on the rise both here and overseas, with reports of tickets being sold up to 20 times the original price, Consumer NZ chief executive Sue Chetwin says.

One Auckland woman paid $1000 for a VIP Adele ticket only to find out she'd been sold $100 stall seats, and that's just one recent example, she said.

Another issue is sites adding fees to the ticket price on sites like Viagogo and Ticketmaster Resale.

A survey by Consumer NZ has been started on its website, and its partnered up with Australian consumer group Choice and UK consumer watchdog Which?.

Consumer NZ would like to hear from anyone who's experienced:

* Exorbitant or inflated ticket prices

* Fake tickets

* Tickets not being delivered

* High fees

* Incorrect credit card charges

* Poor customer service
