Socceroos midfielder Jackson Irvine has scored his seventh goal of the season, helping Burton Albion beat Rotherham 2-1 in the Championship.

The 23-year-old slotted the opening goal of the match in the 15th minute when Chris O'Grady was sent through on goal and was allowed to muscle Dominic Ball off the ball, with his blocked shot falling perfectly for Irvine to slot home from 12 yards.

Irvine's goal was followed by Matthew Palmer's brilliant strike in the 62nd minute while Tom Adeyemi picked up a late consolation for the Rotherham in the English second-tier competition.

"Massive result today. Ridiculous goal from @mattpalmer_23 been coming for a while! More to build on," Irvine tweeted.

Burton sit in 19th spot and three points clear of the relegation zone after scoring their second win in eight games while Rotherham sit last on seven points.
