Jane Fonda says she needed therapy

Jane Fonda says the challenges of episodic television made her seek counselling.

The 78-year-old actress co-stars with Lily Tomlin in the Netflix series Grace and Frankie.

The show's second season premiered last week, and it has been renewed for a third.

But that first season was a doozy, Fonda said on Saturday at a Netflix luncheon celebrating the "rebels and rule breakers" behind its hit shows.

"I didn't realise what a completely different animal episodic television is. It was really hard for me the first season. I kind of fell apart," said the actress, agelessly fashionable in a Zuhair Murad floral suit.

"So I went back into therapy, and I got an acting coach."

When the audience at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel laughed, Fonda responded: "No, it's true! And I'm proud of that at my age."

Fonda has won two Oscars for best actress in a leading role.
