Official Japanese data says industrial production was up 0.1 per cent in October from the previous month.

Industrial production in Japan edged up 0.1 per cent in October from the previous month for the third straight month of increases, the government says.

The figure, which was in line with a forecast by analysts surveyed by the Nikkei business daily, followed a 0.6-per-cent increase in September.

"Industrial production shows signs of increase at a moderate pace," the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said in a statement.

Manufacturers expect industrial output to jump 4.5 per cent in November and fall 0.6 per cent in December, a survey conducted by the ministry said.

The index of industrial shipments rose 2.2 per cent to 98.5 in October from the previous month, and that of industrial inventories declined 2.1 per cent to 108.6, the ministry said.
