Prime Minister John Key says reports of a visit by United States Secretary of State John Kerry can't yet be confirmed.

Mr Kerry had a wide range of interests in the region to talk about if he did come, Mr Key told reporters in New Delhi on Thursday.

His visit is due in the next two weeks, after the US election and coinciding with the visit by the US destroyer USS Sampson as part of the Royal New Zealand Navy's 75th celebrations, 1 News reports.

"I think he's been interested for some time in coming down our way but we don't have official confirmation that he is," Mr Key said.

"I am certainly aware there is interest from John Kerry to potentially come, but whether he does come and the dates of that is yet to be determined."
