Johnstone, Campbell top NZers at Badminton

Badminton debutants Clarke Johnstone and Jesse Campbell sit in the top 10 to be the leading New Zealanders after the dressage phase of the three-day equestrian event in England.

Johnstone's score of 40.8 penalty points on Balmoral Sensation had the combination ninth ahead of the cross-country leg in Gloucestershire.

Campbell, riding Kaapachino, was marked at 41.1 to be 10th.

The next best New Zealander is four-time champion Sir Mark Todd, who received a score of 44.8 with his mount, Leonidas II, to be 17th.

Two places further back is 2013 winner Jonathan Paget on Clifton Lush leg with 45.2.

Leading the field is defending Olympic champion Michael Jung, the German scoring 34.4 on La Biosethique Sam.

He is 2.4 points ahead of Britain's Emily King on Brookleigh.
