New Zealand have been outclassed 6-0 by the United States at the FIFA under-20 World Cup in Korea, crashing out of the tournament in the round of 16 stage.

The Junior All Whites never looked in the contest against a quality US side, meaning they depart the tournament at the same stage as two years ago, when they were hosts.

After some encouraging performances in pool play, the New Zealanders lacked cohesion in possession and fell away badly on defence as the match wore on.

They didn't manage a single shot on target while the Americans managed 10, nailing five of their goals in the second half.

Seventeen-year-old striker Josh Sargent was a constant threat and he opened the US account in the 32nd minute with a deflection.

Five goals came in the last 26 minutes, through Jeremy Ebobisse, Brooks Lennon, Justen Glad, Auston Trusty and Lagos Kunga.

The highlight of New Zealand's tournament was a 3-1 win over Honduras in pool play.

Their other results were a 0-0 draw with Vietnam and a 2-0 loss to European champions France.
