Junior All Whites to play US in Korea

New Zealand have earned a match against the United States in the knockout stage of the under-20 World Cup in South Korea.

The Kiwis were beaten 2-0 by France on Sunday (NZT), largely outplayed by the European champions, who cruised through pool play without conceding a goal and scoring nine.

But with an earlier scoreless draw against Vietnam and a 3-1 win over Honduras, New Zealand finished second in Group E to progress through to the round of 16.

The US won Group F, but their final pool match 1-1 draw with Saudi Arabia will prove costly.

Cameron Carter-Vickers was red-carded, while Aaron Herrera and Derrick Jones received yellow cards, ruling all three players out of Thursday's game against New Zealand in Incheon.

In their other pool matches, the Americans drew 3-3 with Ecuador and beat Senegal 1-0.

The New Zealanders will be without captain Clayton Lewis and key defender Dane Ingham, who also missed the French game after being called into Anthony Hudson's All Whites squad for next month's Confederations Cup.
