Jury considers shotgun killing verdict

High Court © SNPA High Court A High Court jury is considering whether a gunman who fatally shot a man and wounded another in Papakura last year is guilty of murder.

Isaac Broughton had been charged over the fatal shooting of Shon Tyson Wanahi, 26 outside Papakura Railway Station in the early hours of March 12, 2016.

He was also accused of wounding 28-year-old Bunji Fenton with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Prosecutors argued Broughton had targeted the men and two of their friends when he spotted them on the street and leapt from his car with a sawn-off shot gun, saying something like, "what's up motherf***s?"

However, the defence argued Broughton had tried to retreat from the four friends and only shot them in self defence when they continued to attack him after he got back into his car.
