Justin Bieber has announced a show in Auckland and a stadium tour of Australia early next year in support of his number one album Purpose.

The tour was hinted at last week when promoter Frontier Touring launched a website, with a ticking countdown, mirroring the name of his song Where Are U Now.

The Canadian pop star, 22, will perform at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland on March 18.

His album, Purpose, moves Bieber into the realm of R&B and electronic dance music. In keeping with the new sound he's bringing Dutch DJ-of-the-moment Martin Garrix Down Under as the support act.

Bieber has been on tour in the US and will be hitting Europe over the rest of 2016.

This will be Bieber's first tour Down Under since 2013 and his first stadium tour of Australia.

Justin Bieber tour dates:

March 6 - nib Stadium, Perth

March 10 - Etihad Stadium, Melbourne

March 13 - Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane

March 15 - ANZ Stadium, Sydney

March 18 - Mt Smart Stadium, Auckland, NZ
