Quake-stricken communities in and around Kaikoura will be able to bid for a share of the $2.7 million profit from Lotto's December 10 draw.

Internal Affairs Minister Peter Dunne has set up a Lottery Grants Board sub-committee to handle requests.

"The sub-committee will consider requests until all of the $2.7 million has been distributed, and I urge those in the earthquake affected areas that can benefit from receiving a grant to apply as soon as they are able," he said on Monday.

"Requests for assistance to improve the lives and well-being of people and/or capital works up to $30,000 may be made."
