New Zealand captain Kane Williamson scored a half-century in a winning cause for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in his first appearance of the Indian Premier League season.

Williamson scored 50 off 38 balls against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Hyderabad, sharing a second-wicket stand of 124 with Australian opener David Warner (92 off 50).

The Sunrisers posted 194-5 and restricted the visitors to 179-6 to notch a fourth win from seven games and climb to fourth.

Williamson missed their opening games to shake off a hamstring niggle sustained during New Zealand's run to the final of the World Twenty20.

Earlier this week the 25-year-old was named to succeed Brendon McCullum as Black Caps skipper in all three formats.
