Kennett second in Tour of Ireland opener

New Zealand cyclist Dylan Kennett has finished second in the opening stage of the Tour of Ireland.

Kennett is part of the Cycling New Zealand endurance track team using the race as preparation for the Rio Olympics.

Taco van der Hoorne won the 144km opening stage from Dublin to Multyfarnham, with Kennett leading a chase group of 15 who couldn't quite reel in the Dutchman.

Madison Genesis professional Taylor Gunman was sixth while Aaron Gate of the An Post Chane Reaction team was 27th, followed by Kiwi track Olympic track hopefuls Regan Gough (48th) and Hayden Roulston (50th).
