Key talks trade with Britain's new PM

Prime Minister John Key has been talking trade in New York with Britain's post-Brexit Prime Minister Theresa May.

He's been interested in a free trade agreement with Britain ever since it voted to leave the European Union, and that's one of the things they talked about.

"There's no question the UK wants to have a free trade agreement with New Zealand," Mr Key told reporters after the meeting.

"They appreciate the support we've been giving them, and we're the easy part of the equation."

By that he means Britain will first have to go through the process of extricating itself from the EU, which will take years.

Mr Key met Ms May on the sidelines of UN leaders' week.
