Prime Minister John Key is about to reveal the first glimpses of this year's budget.

He's making a speech at a Business NZ lunch in Wellington and it's billed as the first pre-budget speech of the year.

Mr Key will answer media questions after he's delivered it.

His speech is likely to be followed by several more over the next few weeks, most of them delivered by Finance Minister Bill English, before the budget is presented on May 26.
