Kisnorbo retires from A-League

Melbourne City captain and former Socceroo Patrick Kisnorbo has called time on his career.

The lion-hearted centre back led the A-League club for the past three seasons, reaching the semi-finals in the past two campaigns.

The 35-year-old was out of contract at City and was expected to consider ending his career 16 years after he started it in the National Soccer League with South Melbourne.

He told told Fox Sports on Sunday night he had a "great career".

"I'm very lucky and honoured to have played with great players, played overseas," he said.

"I was just a kid from the West. Hopefully there's a lot of kids that have the inspiration to do it (too)."

Prior to returning to his hometown, Kisnorbo forged a career in the top tiers of England and Scotland with Hearts, Leicester City, Leeds United and Ipswich Town.

He won 18 caps for Australia, appearing at the 2007 Asian Cup.
