Unbeaten South African rugby team the Stormers have turned to New Zealand midfield back Shaun Treeby to alleviate an injury crisis.

The unbeaten Stormers have signed former Highlander Treeby on a four-month deal through to the end of the Super Rugby season.

With three midfield backs out injured, including Springboks Damian de Allende and Juan de Jongh, Treeby will be a valued inclusion, according to Stormers director of rugby Gert Smal.

"We needed some experience in midfield and I am sure that Shaun will have a positive impact here in his time with us," Smal said.

An NPC player for Wellington since 2009, Treeby made 50 appearances for the Highlanders over five seasons.

The 28-year-old's Stormers debut could come in the high profile clash in Cape Town on Sunday (NZT) when they face the Chiefs, who share the same perfect five-from-five record.
