A handful of New Zealand fashion labels have topped an international list of companies' fashion industry ethical rankings, according to a leading charity.

Kowtow and Liminal Apparel have scored top scores of A, while Karen Walker, Kathmandu, AS Colour, Glassons and Macpac have recieved Bs as a measure of their efforts to address worker exploitation.

However, Farmers and Icebreaker have come in at the bottom, with a F and D- respectively, because they refused to take part and had no information publicly available about its supply chain.

The Tearfund guide aims at providing insight to the public in an effort to reduce worker exploitation and alleviate poverty in developing countries.

Karen Walker received a "most improved" award from the authors of the report, from rising from a C to a B+, while Glassons rose from a D- in 2015, to a C+ last year and now a B-.
