NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 29/05/2016

New Zealand's involvement at the French Open is over after Marcus Daniell suffered a third-round men's doubles loss.

Daniell and his American partner Brian Baker lost 6-2 6-7 6-1 to sixth seeds Rohan Bopanna of India and Romania's Florian Mergea.

The 26-year-old wins 18,500 euros ($NZ30,700) for his efforts in his fifth grand slam doubles campaign.

He will turn his attention to his favoured surface, grass, on which he reached the last 16 last year at Wimbledon.

Two other New Zealanders suffered men's doubles exits earlier at Roland Garros.

Daniell's regular partner Artem Sitak was ousted in the second round while Michael Venus lost his opening match.
