A Kiwi has reportedly died on the French island of Corsica after falling in a cycling accident.

Christchurch man Darryl Queen, 50, was cycling on a coastal road on the Mediterranean island when he crashed and fell six metres, French news website Franceinfo reports.

A rescue helicopter was sent to the scene but paramedics could not revive him.

Mr Queen was believed to be holidaying in near Calvi, a town in Haute-Corse, the northern part of the island.

The New Zealand Embassy in Paris is providing consular assistance to the family, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesman says.
