Kiwi discus thrower close to world champs

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 29/05/2017

Kiwi discus thrower Marshall Hall is close to securing a place at the world championships after unleashing a powerful throw in California.

Hall eclipsed his personal best by nearly 3m with a 64.55m best at the Pat Young Throwers Classic Salinas.

It was just short of the national record of 65.03m set by Ian Winchester, at the same meet 15 years ago.

If Hall can eke out another 75cm, he will match the A performance standard for August's world championships in London.

The 28-year-old Southlander is an eight-time national champion.
