Kiwi golfer Hendry second on Japan Tour

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 5/06/2016

New Zealand's Michael Hendry has unfurled three successive rounds of 69 to finish second in the latest Japan Golf Tour event in Kasama.

Henry was 65th after carding a five-over 76 in his first round but found his touch at the JGT Championship to climb through the field.

The 36-year-old shared fourth place going into the final round and passed those in front of him but he couldn't match a 66 from Japanese winner Yosuke Tsukada, who prevailed by a shot on two-under.

Hendry's performance at the Shishido Hills Country club follows a share of fifth at the previous week's tournament in Okayama.

He climbs to eighth on the Tour's money list with 2.13 million yen ($NZ287,790) and is starting to mount a late bid to be New Zealand's second golfer at the Rio Olympics alongside Danny Lee.

Before this week, Henry sat behind Ryan Fox and Josh Geary but he can expect a decent bounce up the rankings.
