Kiwi golfer Lee hoping for Masters miracle

Danny Lee's hopes of competing at next week's US Masters haven't vanished yet following a solid start to the PGA Tour event in Texas.

Lee shares 30th place after the first round of the Houston Open, a tournament he must win to have any chance of competing at the opening men's major of the year in Augusta.

The Kiwi No.1 mixed seven birdies with four bogeys to card a three-under 69, five strokes behind American leader Rickie Fowler.

Lee hasn't been at his best in 2017, slipping outside the world top 100 and to 137th on the PGA Tour's points race.

The 26-year-old has competed at Augusta twice previously and at eight major tournaments in total. His best result came at last year's Masters, when he placed 17th.
