Ben Campbell has continued an impressive return to international golf with an eight-under second round 64 at the Victorian Open.

His two-round tally of 137 places him a share of 12th, six strokes shy of clubhouse leader Jake McLeod, who fired a sizzling 11-under 61 to set a new record for the Creek course.

Campbell, once ranked sixth in the world as an amateur, has spent the last few years battling mystery chest and rib problems.

Steady improvement over the last year has resulted in solid showings for the Queenstown-based golfer, including a fifth place at the Queensland Open and a share of 20th at the Australian Open.

Fellow Kiwi Michael Hendry, who opened with a flawless six-under 66 for a share of second place overnight, began round two with a bogey and after three holes sits in a tie for 25th.
