Kiwi into world squash champs draw

Young New Zealander Lance Beddoes is through to the main draw at the world squash championships in Cairo.

The 23-year-old Aucklander, who plays out of Harrow in England, will meet Hong Kong's Leo Au in the first round.

Beddoes, who is ranked 102nd in the world, earned a spot in the main draw against 30th-ranked Au with two wins in qualifying.

The Kiwi beat Bernat Jaume of Spain 11-9 11-8 8-11 8-11 14-12 in a gruelling 63-minute encounter first up, then accounted for Englishman Angus Gillams 9-11 11-5 11-8 11-8 in his second match.

The second New Zealander in qualifying, Evan Williams, dipped out after losing his second match in straight sets to Pakistan's Adil Maqbool after earlier beateing Welshman Peter Creed.
